Fishing Seasons

Fishing on Lake St. Clair

The season starts in mid-May when schools of walleye are abundant around the mile roads.

Early June brings the walleye into Anchor Bay with shallow water fishing using very light weight and night crawlers buzzing just above the weed beds. This is also the time when the muskie are loaded on the American side of the lake and encounters happen often.

The third Saturday in June opens up smallmouth bass fishing. The smallmouth are on the shallow weed beds in large numbers. Troll with spot tail minnows and experience very large bass. I guarantee the biggest you have ever caught.

Around the 1st of July, the walleye settle into the middle of the lake, Canadian and American side. Fish with bottom bouncers and in-line weights. smallmouth bass fishing is still very good-just in deeper water. This is the time of year that I like, late afternoon, until dark fishing trips.

In August, walleye fishing can be tough. However, some years they are still biting good. I like to target the mouths of the channels with suspension baits for a mixed bag of fish (walleye, bass, muskie, and pike).

In September and October it's Perch time! Early morning fishing with plenty of shiners for bait is the best.
